Chapter Summary

This chapter explores how people’s concepts of self are formed. It describes the socialization process, where people come to understand societal norms and expectations, to accept society’s beliefs, and to be aware of societal values. It explains why socialization is important and what factors affect this process.It was adapted from OpenStax’s textbook entitled Introduction to Sociology 2e (2018) by Heather Griffiths and Nathan Keirns.
