This book uses authentic freshman-level texts to teach important reading skills and prepare students for university. In each chapter, you’ll find:

  • authentic materials from freshman textbooks which have been minorly adapted and divided into four to six readings
  • explicit reading skill instruction, including synthesizing, noticing definitions and more
  • reading comprehension questions that build students’ skills and focus their attention
  • vocabulary activities that highlight common academic words
  • discussion topics so students can practice expanding on a text

Together the materials in this book will help students better understand typical readings in their freshman year of college by giving them the tools to succeed.
